 CCC Programs & Projects

To achieve its mission, CCC uses research, habitat protection, public education, community outreach, networking and advocacy as its basic tools. These tools are applied in both international and domestic programs focusing on geographic areas that are globally important to sea turtle survival. The map below shows the locations of CCC's activities and initiatives. To find information about a project site, click on a marker and an information balloon will open.

CCC’s geographic focus is the Wider Caribbean and Atlantic because of the region’s unique importance to the world’s remaining sea turtle populations. The colonies of green turtles, loggerheads, hawksbills and leatherbacks that nest at Tortuguero in Costa Rica, Chiriqui Beach in Panama, and in Florida are among the largest remaining in the Western Hemisphere. In response, CCC concentrates its efforts toward these critical nesting beaches.

The highly migratory nature of sea turtles dictates that CCC include the whole Caribbean basin within its geographic scope. Therefore, programs have been initiated in Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the eastern Caribbean because of the important roles these areas play in the life cycle of sea turtles.
