Dear ,

I was disappointed to learn that funding for the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge was not included in the Senate's/House's appropriations bill. The establishment of the refuge and continued acquisition of land for protection within the refuge boundaries is strongly supported by the public and local and state elected officials. As you know, this refuge protects one of the most important sea turtle nesting beaches in the world.

Land in the refuge is continually being lost to development at an alarming rate. That is why continued federal funding for acquisition is critical. While the refuge is over 60% complete, key lands must still be bought or they will be developed. To date, lands have been bought by local government, significant contributions by the state of Florida, by private foundations, and by the federal government. Thank you for your support in the past, but your continued support at this critical stage is essential.

Please do what you can to support funding for the Archie Carr Refuge in the "conference committee" and reinstate the $2.75 million originally requested by the administration.

Sincerely,
