Satellite-Tracked Turtles
CCC has several named turtles with satellite transmitters attached to the back of their shells. This allows us to use space age technology to learn more about their migratory behavior (Satellite tracking FAQ). The transmitters are designed to send signals each time the turtle comes to the surface for air. Regularly updated maps are posted on our website so adoptive parents can keep track of their turtles. Tortuguero Turtle Adoptions
CCC also offers Tortuguero Turtle Adoptions. As part of CCC's research program in Tortuguero, Costa Rica, green turtles are tagged with metal flipper tags to help identify them for nesting trend data. These flipper-tagged turtles are available for adoption and you can name one of these turtles! You or your gift recipient can choose the turtle's name and will be the sole adoptive parents for this turtle. Although these turtles are NOT tracked via satellite on CCC's website, future sightings of your turtle are published once a year in the Velador newsletter.
